Film Report: Tomb Raider
It’s been two weeks since I saw this film, I have been delaying/ procrastinating writing blogs! Oh, my god, the number of drafts living on my laptop is just outrageous!
Lu Ren: Some men like dangerous women.
Lara Croft: Some men are foolish.
I was so excited to watch this film, mainly because of Alicia Vikander. I was smitten with her charm from the film The Danish girl.
What are your thoughts about The Danish Girl?
Anyway, I am almost 8127746837years late and I think most of you would have already devoured this film. It’s a plus because now we can actually discuss and not just me blabber about the film?
What is Tomb Raider about?
Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death. Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who-against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit-must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.
My review of Tomb Raider.
Again. I know there is a video game but I don’t know anything else except that.
Secondly, I haven’t watched Angelina Jolie’s version of Tomb Raider, so I literally had nothing to compare it to.
Now that being said, I really enjoyed this film. Also, I know it is worth it because I saw it with my sister who generally dozes off between films if it doesn’t hold her interest and I saw her rooting for our main character, Lara Croft aka Alicia Vikander. (Heart eyes) I definitely sound like a lesbian here, but I seriously think I have a major girl crush on her!
What did I like about Tomb Raider?
- First of all Alicia Vikander
- Did I mention Alicia Vikander?
- Of course Alicia Vikander
- Okay not just Alicia Vikander but her acting, from her sensitive girl to the macho woman, ah! WHAT A TREAT! She did all her stunts with grace and did I mention about my girl crush?
- This movie’s main attraction was definitely all those wonderful action sequences. It is so well directed, shot and edited. You find yourself enjoying every bit of it.
- The effects are beautiful, and I cover it all, the sound, CGI, everything. Definitely, an IMAX treat.
Could have been different?
Just one thing– storyline was a bit weak– which is why I think the critics have rated the film way low than it deserves. But, the action sequences and the characters hold it out and you will definitely find yourself enjoying it.
